Need something to do this winter? Well, snowshoe racing may be just the thing for you.
Snowshoe racing is relatively new to the Tuesday Night Turtles. In the 2008-09 season, Scott Mason and Bob Jackman decided to head up to a snowshoe race and see what all the fuss was about. It stuck.
Being the Turtles they are, though, they decided that if they were going to drive three hours north, they better make it worth their while. That is how the TNT snowshoe tradition started.
Most Turtles who go to snowshoe races head to a brewpub afterward. Some of the pubs visited during the past couple of seasons were Martha’s Exchange, Portsmouth Brewery, Milly’s Tavern and Watch City Brewing Company.
The TNT snowshoe team grew quite a bit in the 2009-10 season. TNT had about 10 different runners compete throughout the season and became even bigger in the 2010-11 season, with nearly 20 runners strapping on snowshoes.
The Turtles focus mainly on the Granite State Snowshoe Series with races throughout New Hampshire. If you don’t own a pair of racing snowshoes, don’t worry; most races have snowshoes available to rent. Just make sure to contact the race director in advance.
So, if you want to switch things up this winter and hit some amazing brewpubs, you should try snowshoeing!
